Bajaj Chetak 2006posted by Bob | January 25, 2006 | link
The much anticipated model changes to the 2006 Bajaj Chetak have not happened. After over 40 years in production, Bajaj Auto has decided to discontinue production of the Chetak model. The Indian consumer, which makes up the majority of Bajaj sales worldwide, has shifted interest from the scooter style to the small displacement motorcycle. As a result, the venerable Chetak will cease to exist after the 2006 model year.
This comes as a great surprise to fans of the Chetak styling both in India and in the Western world, where the retro metal body and 4 speed gearing had garnered a dedicated following.
Scooterville just received its first alotment of 2006 Chetaks. The subtle cosmetic changes to the design are very pleasing. The improvements in paint finish are really incredible. The '06 models come in a choice of three metallic shades. Black, which comes off more as a deep charcoal, jade green, and a warm silver. The finish quality compares with the best we've seen on any scooter, anywhere.
Talk about an instant collector. The 2006 Chetaks. Without a doubt, the finest 4 stroke traditional scooter ever. While they last.
