Movin' On.......posted by Bob | August 24, 2007 | link
We always assumed this would happen. We pretty much built it into our business plan from the start. Since we opened our door for business back in May of 2002 we knew that our tenure at our original location would last a season or maybe two until we settled on a "permanant" spot. The first couple years were an experiment. Would the public embrace the notion of the scooter as a viable transportation/commuter/recreational vehicle? Five years ago there weren't too many scooter options.
Those of you who have "made the trip" (our first t-shirt logo) to Scooterville will understand our description as a scooter destination. Our notion was if we could get scooter shoppers to find us, we had a fairly motivated customer.
Our plan and philosophy served us well. Our two year plan turned into six. A lonely outpost at the gravel end of a dead end road became a perfect spot for a test ride. We could host a gathering of 200 scooter riders during a rally. We could bring our dogs to work and let them roam freely.
The future arrived abruptly on June 15th with the announcement that our building had been purchased with the intention of demolishion for future development. Ten days later another piece of news would have a solid impact on Scooterville. The Minneapolis dealer for sales and service of Vespa and Piaggio motorscooters announced the closure of their operations. Scooterville acted immediately upon this news and added the Vespa/Piaggio line to our product selection.
We are busy getting our new location ready. We hope to be ready for operations in early October. Final approval from Minneapolis Planning/Zoning will determine the exact date. Those of you familiar with the former Easy-Riders shop on Cedar Avenue (actually 19th Ave South) will recognize our new home. We look forward to becoming more visible to the public with 500+ cars per hour and visible signage from I-94.
During this transition we must salute the loyal following of our customers and friends. We look forward to hosting the entire scooter community in the Grand Opening of our new location!!
